The Art Of Parenting
COACHING PARENTS WITH NEURODIVERGENT CHILDREN THRIVE THROUGH THE CHALLENGES
Even though I am a licensed mental health provider, I practice solely as a parent coach and consultant. Therapy focuses much more on the past and is non-directive and tends to be long-term. As a coach I am directive and the focus is not just on understanding what is driving your child’s behaviors, but what you can do to help. My initial work with families generally requires 6-8 sessions over a 2 to 3-month period of time at least with weekly sessions. Approximately 95% of my work is strictly with parents.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND THERAPY?
What sets coaching apart from therapy is its collaborative nature. In coaching, you, as the client, take the lead in defining the goals you wish to pursue or the areas of your life you seek to enhance. My role as a coach is to guide you in staying focused on those goals, offering support, insights, and practical strategies to facilitate your progress. The primary aim of coaching is to foster improvement, achievement, and a sense of fulfillment.
In contrast, therapy typically begins with addressing existing challenges or issues that may be hindering your functioning. While both coaching and therapy aim for improvement, therapy often starts from a perspective of addressing dysfunction or impairment. Should your needs extend beyond the scope of coaching, I am committed to facilitating a referral to a qualified mental health professional who can provide the appropriate therapeutic support
